Keeping Lawns Lush

APPLYING FERTILIZER DURING THE SUMMER

Summer is here. The days are getting longer, and they’re certainly getting hotter; and probably drier. Spring showers bring May flowers, right? Well, summer doesn’t do that. Summer brings a series of challenges to homeowners in order to keep gardens and lawns healthy and happy.

First things first, do your first application of IKE’s LAWN BOOSTER PRIME 30-0-0 fertilizer once the temperature in your area warms up. A lawn coming out of winter needs a steady supply of essential nutrients to drive growth. You have to provide lawns with what they need. If you don’t? Grass can thin out, let more weeds in, and possibly die. Secondly, make sure you’re giving turf around an inch of water a week during summer’s heat.

Environmentally Friendly Fertilizer

IKE’s LAWN BOOSTER PRIME 30-0-0 is an environmentally friendly supplemental liquid nitrogen fertilizer designed for foliar and soil applications. Applicable for use on both warm and cool season grasses, it delivers a steady release of nitrogen over eight weeks. Promoting vigorous root and plant growth, it provides an extended release of nitrogen that can help increase yield and plant development. However, you should follow this recommendation and only apply fertilizer every eight weeks at the most. Overfertilizing your lawn can have negative effects, burning it out and ultimately killing it.

If you’re going through a particularly hot and dry summer and your lawn happens to go dormant, avoid using fertilizer as it could potentially make it worse; the lawn will come back naturally as the seasons change. Cooler temperatures and rain are the only changes that will truly bring back a drought-induced lawn back to health.

When to Fertilize Your Lawn

To ensure that you’re following our recommendation and fertilizing every eight weeks (around three times a year during the growing seasons), set up a schedule to follow—and keep to it. It’s incredibly easy to forget when to fertilize because it’s difficult to notice grass thinning and extra weeds popping up. It’s a slow process that builds over a long period of time. With a schedule to follow, you’ll keep nutrients flowing to your lawn and have a beautifully lush environment to enjoy summer with.
